Architectural features of the Parthenon

Here are some classical architectural features of the Parthenon.

Was built from 447 to 432 BC

  • The Parthenon consisted of 50 Columns/Pillars. 8 at the front and back and 17 on either side. This supported the building.
  • The inside porch consisted of 6 pillars on the front and 6 at the back. There are more pillars surrounding the inside hall.

 

  • Triangular pediment showed the Greek Gods.

 

  • They used 13400 stones.
  • In the middle of the Parthenon stood the Statue of Athena.

 

  • The stone lintels supported the columns.

 

  • The building is very symmetrical and balanced.
